The society was established in 1974 as the Southern Clinical Neurological Society. The founders envisioned the organization to be regional in scope and accordingly membership was restricted to neurologists residing and practicing in southern states. As the organization grew in popularity, membership was extended to neurologists practicing in all states. To reflect its national growth, in 2021 the Society changed its name to the Clinical Neurological Society of America. 

Today, CNSA’s membership includes not just neurologists, but neuroscientists and other allied health professionals including nurses, nurse practitioners and advanced practice providers. Members span the country and reconnect each January at the annual meeting in Florida. The meeting brings together experts in the field who are interested in advancing the practice of neurology and improving patient care.  

The society’s membership is known for fostering strong professional support systems and long-lasting friendships. Clinicians at any stage of practice are invited to join.
